Maireni Cruz, MD, FACP, FASAM has a diverse and extensive work experience. Maireni currently holds the position of Chief of Internal Medicine at Athol Hospital since February 2021. Prior to this role, they worked as an MD at Heywood Medical Group, Athol Primary Care starting in September 2018.

Maireni then pursued their medical career, earning a Medical Doctor degree from Universidad Iberoamericana from 2001 to 2003. Following this, they attended Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña from 1997 to 2000, completing their Medical School studies. Dr. Cruz further enhanced their medical knowledge and skills by attending the Trihealth Good Samaritan Hosp. Internal Med. Residency Program from 2006 to 2009, where they obtained a degree in Internal Medicine. Additionally, they engaged in research in addiction medicine at Boston University between 2017 and 2019, becoming a research scholar in addiction medicine. During the same period, they also served as a Clinical Instructor/ Fellow in Addiction Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. More recently, in 2019 and 2020, Dr. Cruz pursued a Physician Leadership Developing program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
