Winfield S. Brown, BA, MSB, MHA, FACHE leads Heywood Healthcare's operations and strategic direction. His engaging leadership style and optimistic drive propel our organizations to focus on community needs and respond to the evolving healthcare market, leading to sustained growth, improved quality, and patient and employee satisfaction.

During his tenure, he has led the growth and creation of the Heywood Healthcare system having established the merger with Athol Hospital, the expansion of Heywood Medical Group, Diabetes Center of Excellence, the Heywood Heart and Vascular Center, and expanded the behavioral health partial hospitalization program three-fold to improve access to behavioral health care in the region. Mr. Brown continues to address the pressing need for greater local access to behavioral health and addiction services with the establishment of The Quabbin Retreat in Petersham, with the Dana Day Treatment Center now open and a Residential Adult Addiction Treatment Facility.

Prior to joining Heywood Healthcare, he served as Vice President of Administration at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, MA, Vice President of Marketing, Planning, and Development at Northern Berkshire Healthcare in North Adams, MA, and served as Executive Director of St. Mary’s Foundation and Vice President of St. Mary’s Health System in Lewiston, Maine.

Mr. Brown has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Bates College, a Master of Science in Business from Husson University, and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He serves on the following Boards including Chair, Board of Directors of The United Way of Central Massachusetts; Chair, Boys & Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts; Massachusetts Hospital Association; Mount Wachusett Community College Foundation; YPO Patriot New England; GFA Federal Credit Union Supervisory Board; Heywood Physician Hospital Organization (PHO); Vizient New England and Unitil Corporation.
