Johanna Kao

Johanna Kao is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in international development and public policy. Currently serving as the Senior Director for the Asia-Pacific division at the International Republican Institute since February 2000, Johanna provides strategic advice and support for programs totaling over US$9.3 million annually. Previous roles include Resident Country Director for China, where Johanna managed civil society capacity-building projects, and Resident Country Director for Indonesia, overseeing a USAID program focused on strengthening political parties. Additionally, Johanna has served as a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council and held positions at the Asia Society and Time Magazine, where reporting included coverage of significant events like the Hong Kong handover.
