Janis Byrne

Janis Byrne recently retired from her position as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Pennecon Limited. During her 23 years with Pennecon, she operated in a dynamic and complex heavy civil construction, services & marine, and real estate environment, providing strategic advice focusing on risk, legal, governance, and regulatory matters to a multi-disciplinary group of companies. Janis holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Ottawa and received the ICD.D designation after completing the Directors’ Education Program, through the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Janis also sits on the Board of Directors of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation and the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation. She is engaged in her community. Some of her current and recent not-for-profit activities include Chair of the St. John’s Board of Trade, Director, Junior Achievement NL, President, Canadian Bar Association (NL Branch), and Director, Canadian Bar Insurance Association. Janis is a member of the campaign cabinet for “The Way Home” Capital Campaign, fundraising to build a new regional shelter for the St. John’s SPCA.
