Catherine Leonard has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and industries. Catherine worked at Auckland Council from 2014 onwards, starting as a Manager Cataloguing & Discovery and later progressing to roles such as Manager Regional Collections, Head of Content and Access, Head of Content and Discovery, and currently serving as the Head of Library & Learning Services. Before joining Auckland Council, Catherine worked as a Business Manager at Touch Marketing Ltd for a brief period in 2014. Prior to that, they served as the General Manager at Softlink America, Inc from 2009 to 2014. Catherine also held managerial positions at Softlink Pacific, where they worked as a Manager and later as an Educational Sales and Training Consultant. Catherine'searliest recorded work experience was as a Library Adviser at the National Library of New Zealand from 1997 to 1999.

Catherine Leonard has a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Canterbury, which they obtained from 1979 to 1980. Catherine then pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Librarianship from Victoria University of Wellington in 1981. Finally, they completed their education with a Master's Degree in Information Science from UCL, earning their degree from 1990 to 1994.
