Chantal Knowles has a strong background in museum and research work. Chantal is currently the Head of Human History at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Prior to that, they were a Researcher and PhD student at Monash University. Chantal also served as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong. Chantal has extensive experience in museum management and curation, having held positions such as Head of Cultures and Histories Program at the Queensland Museum Network and Principal Curator at the National Museums of Scotland. Chantal has also worked as a Curator of Ethnography and a Research Assistant at the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford.
Chantal Knowles has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Museology/Museum Studies, which they obtained from Monash University between 2019 and 2022. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Studies in Ethnology and Museum Ethnography at the University of Oxford from 1995 to 1996. Chantal also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Archaeology and Social Anthropology from Queen's University Belfast, which they earned between 1990 and 1993.
