Alberto Pinto

Alberto Pinto was born in Milan in 1974.

He received his BS+MS in Pure Mathematics from the Università degli Studi di Milano, a MS in Applied Physics focusing on digital signal processing, perceptual audio coding and music information retrieval from the same university and Stanford University, CA (USA) and a PhD in Computer Science.

He received also a BA+MA in Organ and Organ Composition from the "G. Verdi" Conservatory of Music of Milan and the "Diplôme de Concert avec Mention" in organ and improvisation at the Haute école de Musique de Genève (Switzerland).

He worked as a researcher in musical informatics and acoustics at the University of Milan and the University of Utrecht (Netherlands) and, since 2006, he has been Visiting Scholar at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) Stanford University, CA (USA).

Since 2008, he teaches courses in Mathematics, Signal Processing and Computer Music at the Libera Università di Scienze Umane e Tecnologiche of Lugano (Switzerland) and at the New University of Cinema and Television (NUCT) in Rome.

Since 2012 he is the President of CESMA - Centro Europeo per gli Studi in Musica e Acustica (European Center for Music and Acoustics Studies) of Lugano (Switzerland), a research and educational institution focused on audio and video engineering.

He conducts research in computer science, mathematics and musical acoustics and has authored over thirty publications including conference papers, books and articles. He serves as a referee for international journals and conferences, and he is member of scientific committees in musical informatics, sound and music computing and machine learning.

He is a member of AES, IEEE, ACM and IMS. In particular, he is a member of the IEEE Standards Association (co-author of the international standard IEEE1599-2008), the Multimedia Communications Technical Committee (MMTC) and the Technical Committee on Computer Generated Music (TCCGM).

Since 2007 he has been an active member of GTCS (Thematic Group on Cinematographic Sound) within the Italian Section of the Audio Engineering Society, where he serves as a board member since 2012.

He received many national and international awards for his scientific research (Gold Medal for Mathematics - Silver plate of the President of the Italian Republic, " Ivano Becchi" Prize - BML Foundation and the Nomination for the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award - Stanford University, Politecnico di Milano and University of Milan) and musical activity (Viterbo National Organ Competition - CariVit Prize and the "Pierre Segond" - City of Geneva) and appears regularly as a speaker in international conferences, workshops and seminars.
