Joseph Lum has been working in the tech industry since 2011. Joseph began their career as a Research Engineer at DSO National Laboratories in 2011. In 2012, they moved to DSTA as a Senior Engineer, where they were responsible for acquisition management, strategic sourcing, critical evaluation of technical and price proposals for defence systems, and project management. In 2016, they co-founded Auk.Industries, where they served as CTO and provided end-to-end solutions for machine data collection, visualization and analysis for manufacturing operations. In 2020, they became an IoT Chapter EXCO Member (Co-opted) at the Singapore Computer Society.

Joseph Lum completed their High School education at Raffles Institution from 2003 to 2004, where they studied Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Joseph then attended Hwa Chong Institution from 1999 to 2002, where they obtained their GCE O Level. Joseph went on to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) at the National University of Singapore from 2007 to 2011, majoring in Engineering. In 2010, they also completed an exchange program at Linköping University, where they studied Aircraft Structures, Fluid Dynamics, Composite Materials, Philosophy of Science, and Nordic Culture.
