Karl Butler has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several roles and companies. Karl began their career as a Junior Engineer at Dow Contractors in 1982 and later worked as an Executive Engineer at DSSR Limited from 1984 to 1991. Following this, they worked at Khonji Watson as an MEP Project Engineer for a brief period in 1992. From 1993 to 1997, Karl worked as a Design Team Leader at INITEC Energía, where they oversaw the mechanical, air conditioning, and electrical services for a new hospital.

In 1997, they joined the Ministry of Health as the Head of Engineering and Maintenance, where they managed technical and managerial aspects for hospitals and healthcare premises. Karl then moved on to W S Atkins Intl in 2008, where they held multiple positions, including Principal Mechanical Engineer, project manager, and the Quality, Health & Safety, and Environment Manager for the Oman business. During their time at Atkins, Karl worked on various projects such as gas projects, hotels, shopping malls, and residential developments.

Most recently, Karl served as the Mechanical Section Head and Design Lead at The Austin Company of UK Ltd since 2016. Karl was responsible for line management, leadership, and design on pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory projects. In January 2021, they were promoted to the position of Director of Engineering, where they led a team of architects and engineers on large-scale pharmaceutical and laboratory projects.

Karl Butler completed a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management at Heriot-Watt University in 2000.
