Al Perales began their work experience in 1995 as a Regional Director at Microsoft, where they stayed until 2000. From 2000 to 2004, they worked as a Sr. Vice President at Terramark DataCenters. In 2004, they moved on to Healthvision, where they served as the Executive Vice President for three years. In 2007, Perales founded Laurencekirk, Inc., a consulting services organization, and worked as the Managing Partner until 2019. Since November 2019, they have been working as the Vice President of Business Innovation at the Austin Lighthouse, where they are responsible for sales, information technology, business development, and e-commerce.
Al Perales has attended the United States Navy's Center for Information Warfare, where they studied Technical in the field of Cyber/Computer Forensics and Counterterrorism. Al also completed the Integral Leadership Program at The Stagen Institute. In addition to their education, Al Perales has obtained a certification in Accessibility Fundamentals from Microsoft in February 2020.

Austin Lighthouse, also known as Travis Association for the Blind, is a service oriented non-profit organization with the mission to assist people who are blind or vision impaired to attain the skills they need to become gainfully employed in the community. This endeavor has been supported by the citizens of central Texas since 1934.
