Michael Young

Director Field Engineering at Austin Powder Company

Michael Young has a strong background in the mining industry, with experience in various leadership roles. Michael started their career at BARTON International as a Mine Engineer and later became a Mine Manager. Michael then joined Cleveland-Cliffs Inc, where they held multiple positions including Mine Engineer, Manager Mine Engineering, Director Mine Reserves, and Director Technical Services. Most recently, they joined Austin Powder Company as the Director Safety, Health, Environment & Security. In 2023, they transitioned to the role of Director Field Engineering.

Michael Young attended Montana Technological University from 1997 to 2001, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mining and Mineral Engineering. In 2013, they obtained a Professional Engineer certification from the State of Ohio. In 2012, they became a SME Registered Member through the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME). Most recently, in 2019, they acquired a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.
