Katie Miller has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Katie is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at AUSTRAC since February 2023. Prior to this, they were the General Counsel at AUSTRAC from January 2021 to February 2023.
In the past, Katie worked at the Law Institute of Victoria, where they held various positions including Immediate Past President, Councillor, President, President-Elect, Vice President, and Executive Member between 2011 and 2016. During their time at the Law Institute of Victoria, they advocated for the legal profession and played a key role in improving governance processes.
Katie also worked at the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) as the Deputy Commissioner from September 2018 to November 2020. Katie provided strategic leadership in this role.
At Victoria Legal Aid, Katie served as the Executive Director, Legal Practice from August 2016 to August 2018. Katie provided strategic leadership in developing and implementing legal aid policies.
Katie completed the Company Director's Course and assessment at the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2013 and was certified as a Graduate of the AICD.
Katie also worked at the Victorian Government Solicitor's Office in various capacities. Katie served as the Innovation Counsel from February 2016 to August 2016 and as the Managing Principal Solicitor from January 2014 to December 2014. Katie started their journey at the Victorian Government Solicitor's Office as a Senior Solicitor in April 2010 and was promoted to Principal Solicitor in July 2011.
Katie's early legal experience includes working as a Senior Lawyer at the Australian Government Solicitor from 2009 to 2010 and as a Lawyer from 2004 to 2009.
Katie Miller has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons) degree from the University of Melbourne, obtained between 1999 and 2004. Katie also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Research from the same university, obtained during the same time period. In 2015, they completed a Mediation Course in Dispute Resolution at Bond University. In the same year, they also completed the Program on Negotiation: Negotiation and Leadership Course at Harvard Law School, specializing in Negotiation and Leadership. Katie Miller is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Law at Deakin University, starting in 2018. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Designing a Presentation from LinkedIn in 2019.
