Tim Stapleton is a seasoned diplomat currently serving as Minister-Counsellor and Head of the Economic, Investment and Infrastructure Branch at the Australian Embassy in Indonesia since September 2021. With extensive experience at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and various embassies, Stapleton has held key roles such as Director of Maritime Security and South China Sea, Director of Digital Trade, and Acting Ambassador in Iraq. A skilled negotiator, Stapleton has led significant trade policy initiatives, including the Australia-Singapore Digital Economy Agreement and services negotiations within the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Academic qualifications include a Master of Public Administration from The London School of Economics and a Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School, alongside a dual Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts from UNSW.
