AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador at Australian Football League

Peterson Opio has a diverse work history spanning several industries and roles. Peterson is currently working as an Advisor for Workforce Development at Sydney Metro since October 2021. Previously, they served as an AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador for the AFL - Australian Football League, where they promoted football in multicultural communities and facilitated cultural education and advice for local community football clubs.

Peterson also held the position of Manager for Social Procurement & Inclusion at Homes Victoria, where they contributed to the Big Housing Build program, aiming to provide stable and affordable housing to Victorians in need. Additionally, they worked as a Relationship Manager for NSW at Supply Nation, focusing on supplier diversity and social procurement.

Peterson's experience includes executive roles at White Ribbon Australia, where they managed the Ambassadors & Advocates Program and served as a White Ribbon Ambassador. Peterson has advocated for preventing men's violence against women and influenced Australian men to critically evaluate their attitudes and behaviors towards women.

Furthermore, Peterson has been involved in community organizations such as the Remote Area Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Care Advisory Association Inc (RAATSICC). As the Director of the Board, they worked to address care and protection issues for children and families in remote communities. Peterson has also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Bamanga Bubu Ngadimunku Inc., an Aboriginal community in Mossman Gorge.

In their earlier career, Peterson worked as a Care Practitioner & Family Contact Manager at UnitingCare Community, where they supported families in need. Peterson also gained experience as an Assistant Basketball Coach and Player at Basketball Queensland, specifically with the QABL Cairns Marlins team. Prior to that, they worked as a Multicultural & Online Registration Service Officer at the Department of Social Services (DSS).

Peterson Opio has a diverse education history spanning from 2010 to 2020. In 2010, they attended James Cook University and received their Bachelor's degree in Government, International Relations, Political Affairs, and Criminology in 2011. Seven years later, in 2017, Opio enrolled in the University of Southern Queensland for their postgraduate studies. Peterson pursued a Doctor of Law (JD) degree, focusing on this field until 2026. In 2020, Peterson Opio attended the Harvard Kennedy School for an Executive Education Course, specializing in Non-profit Stewardship, Accounting, and Financial Management.
