John Lamont is an accomplished legal professional and sports administrator with extensive experience in governance and finance. Currently serving as Secretary General and Executive Board Member of the Queensland Olympic Council since March 2017, along with the role of Vice President Finance, John holds a senior lawyer position at Becker Watt Lawyers Pty Ltd since January 2018. Additionally, John was a member of the Board of Directors for Athletics Australia from October 2023 to February 2024 and served as Chief of Staff at the Parliament of Australia from May 2012 to December 2015. John holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Commercial Law, a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Queensland University of Technology, along with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and US Foreign Policy from The University of Queensland.

The AOC is committed to developing, promoting and protecting the principles of Olympism and the Olympic Movement in Australia in accordance with the Olympic Charter. The AOC is committed to Australia's athletes and encourages the development of high performance sport through athlete support and funding initiatives. It is our responsibility to select, send and fund Australian Teams to the Olympic Summer and Winter Games, Youth Olympic Games and Regional Games. The AOC aims to promote, raise awareness of and encourage participation in sport for benefits of health, longevity, fitness, skill, achievement, social interaction, wellbeing and other benefits of exercise for all individuals in Australia. The AOC is dedicated to the education of Australia's youth and runs a number of programs through all levels of school, including the Olympics Unleashed program and the Australian Olympic Change-Maker program. The AOC is a non-profit organisation, independent of Government and Government funding other than contributions by State Governments to the Olympic Team Appeal. The AOC is an Incorporated Association whose members are the national bodies of sports on the Olympic program. State Olympic Councils represent the AOC in every State and Territory.
