Karl started their career as a Procurement Advisor at Sportspower in 2004 and then worked as a Purchasing and Sales Coordinator at Dimension Data. In 2007, they joined 6S Marketing as a Sales Associate.
In 2009, Karl worked as a Procurement Specialist for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, focusing on sports equipment procurement. Karl then moved on to Peak Products as a Procurement Specialist.
Karl's career took a turn in 2010 when they played professional cricket for Cricket Canada. Karl later joined Ford Motor Company as a Supplier Relationship Manager, responsible for managing the non-production/indirect procurement portfolio.
After Ford, Karl worked at GE Capital as a Sourcing Specialist, focusing on IT&T and HR. Karl then joined TAL Australia as a Sourcing Manager, leading various projects across different categories like Marketing, Professional Services, Claims, IT/Software, and more.
Karl's most recent role was at Australian Unity, where they held several positions. Karl started as a Sourcing Manager and led end-to-end category reviews and implemented category management strategies. Karl was then promoted to Group Sourcing Manager, where they led the Group's Sourcing, Vendor Management, and Supplier Diversity teams. Lastly, Karl served as the Head of Sourcing, overseeing various strategic projects and programs for the company.

In 2001, they enrolled in Australian Catholic University and pursued a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree. During this program, they studied procurement, marketing, and management. Their education at Australian Catholic University lasted until 2003.
In 2009, they attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology for a brief period. Although they did not pursue a specific degree, they focused on purchasing management as their field of study.
In 2010, Karl Whatham enrolled in The Logistics Institute of Canada and completed the Executive Professional Logistics (P.Log) Certification Program. This program provided him with an executive professional certification in logistics.
