Ton Meershoek has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Ton started their career as a Rijksaccountant at Rijksaccountantsdienst in 1980, where they worked until 1989. Ton then joined AkzoNobel, initially as a Site Controller and Accounting Manager, and later as an Audit Manager. In this role, they were responsible for conducting operational audits and providing advice to management. Ton Meershoek also worked as a Financial Director at Total Identity Group from 2000 to 2005.
In 1992, Ton Meershoek began their tenure as a Lecturer of Financial Reporting at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. Since 2005, they have been working at the Autoriteit Financiële Markten, where they hold the position of Technical Expert in Financial Reporting with a specialization in IFRS. Ton is actively involved in various committees at both the European Securities Market Authority (ESMA) and the International Organization of Securities Regulators (IOSCO), and has served as the Chair of the European Enforcers Coordination Sessions (EECS) since 2016.
Ton Meershoek obtained a Master's Degree in Accountancy from Nyenrode Business University from 2011 to 2014. Prior to that, they attended Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) from 1996 to 2000, where they received a post-doc degree in Controlling (RC). From 1980 to 1990, Ton attended Nyenrode Business University, where they pursued an unspecified degree. During this same time period, they also completed the Nivra Accountancy opleiding, earning a degree in Accountancy (RA). Furthermore, Ton Meershoek attended Maartens College Voorburg from 1973 to 1980, where they completed their Havo/Vwo degree. Apart from their formal education, Ton obtained the certification "101 - AI Foundation" from MIcompany in January 2020.
