Carolyn Brucken

Chief Curator And Director Of Research at The Autry

Carolyn Brucken has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations. Carolyn has held the position of Lead Curator Project Tullie at Tullie since 2023. Prior to that, they served as a Visiting Senior Fellow and Adjunct Faculty at Claremont Graduate University from 2014 until the present. Before joining Claremont Graduate University, they worked at the Autry Museum of the American West, where they held various roles including Chief Curator and Director of Research, Senior Curator, Curator of Western Women's History, and Chief Curator from 2003 to 2019. From 1999 to 2003, they were the Manager of Outreach and Training at the Museum of Tolerance. In 1998, they worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Miami University, and from 1994 to 1996, they were a Research and Exhibition Assistant at the Center for Legislative Archives, National Archives.

Carolyn Brucken earned a PhD in American Civilization from The George Washington University, which they attended from 1991 to 1997. Prior to that, they completed their MA in Early American Culture at the University of Delaware from 1989 to 1991. Carolyn also holds a B.Ph degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Miami University, which they obtained from 1985 to 1989. Additionally, Carolyn Brucken pursued further education in the field of American material culture. Carolyn completed a Master of Arts in American material culture from Winterthur Museum and the University of Delaware, as well as another Master of Arts in the same field from the Winterthur Program at the University of Delaware.
