Shara Summers

Shara Summers has a strong background in the field of medical science liaison. Their most recent position was as a Senior Medical Science Liaison at Avadel Pharmaceuticals plc, starting in 2022. Before that, they worked at ALK as a Medical Science Liaison from March 2021 to December 2022. In this role, they were involved in various projects such as leading a medical affairs newsletter project, co-producing an allergy-focused podcast, and leading a medical information project. Shara was also a Veeva team champion and was passionate about integrating digital medical information and communications into medical affairs strategies. Prior to ALK, Shara worked at Eisai US as a Medical Science Liaison from June 2019 to March 2021.

Before transitioning into the medical liaison field, Shara held academic positions. Shara was an Associate Professor of Pharmacotherapy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth from June 2013 to June 2019. Prior to that, they served as an Assistant Professor at Nova Southeastern University- College of Pharmacy from July 2010 to February 2013.

Shara's professional experience also includes residency positions. Shara completed a PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at UPMC from July 2009 to June 2010. Prior to that, they completed a PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy from June 2008 to July 2009.

Shara Summers attended Texas A&M University from 1998 to 2002, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Shara then went on to The University of Texas at Austin from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained their Doctor of Pharmacy degree in Pharmacy. In terms of certifications, Shara has obtained several additional certifications throughout their career. In January 2009, they received their Immunizations certification from the American Pharmacists Association. Shara later obtained their Medication Therapy Management certification from the same institution in November 2013. Shara also holds two board certifications: one as a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist from the BPS - Board of Pharmacy Specialties, which they obtained in October 2011, and another as a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist, which they obtained in December 2016, also from the BPS - Board of Pharmacy Specialties.
