Emal Alwis

Emal Alwis is the Founder and CEO of Avala. Prior to Avala, they were the Founder and Lead Designer at Nivasa from August 2017 to December 2019. Before that, they worked as an Autopilot AI and Software Engineer at Tesla from February 2014 to July 2019. Emal also served as the Lead Hardware, Software, and UX Engineer at Synaptic Design from July 2013 to February 2014. Alwis began their career as an R&D Electrical Engineer at MR Instruments, Inc from October 2011 to January 2013 where they worked on compact magnetic resonance imaging devices. Emal also worked as a Neuroengineering Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota from January 2009 to February 2014 where they focused on embedded hardware and software for Brain Computer Interface technologies under Dr. Bin He. Alwis has co-authored a paper on their work in neuroengineering.

Emal Alwis has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Emal also has certification from Scuba Schools International in Open Water Diver.
