Gala Garrod, PhD, has a diverse background in the field of tropical medicine and vector-borne diseases. Gala recently worked as a Medical Writer at Avania and Siyemi Learning. Prior to that, they pursued their PhD in Tropical Medicine at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Their research focused on developing and applying molecular tools to quantify the transmission of trypanosomes in human African trypanosomiasis. Gala also worked as a Research Assistant at the same institution, evaluating indoor residual spraying for the Indian Visceral Leishmaniasis elimination program and exploring genetic simulations to understand insecticide resistance dynamics in Anopheles mosquito populations. Additionally, Gala served as a Research Assistant at the Malaria Atlas Project, where they collated bionomics data on Anopheles mosquitoes and validated disease incidence data as part of the Vector-Borne Disease Network. Gala holds an MSc in Medical Parasitology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Gala Garrod, PhD completed their education in a chronological manner. Gala started their academic journey in 2005 at Notting Hill and Ealing High School, where they completed their secondary education. In 2010, they enrolled at Queen's University Belfast and obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Zoology in 2013. Following this, they pursued further studies and attended the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London from 2013 to 2014, obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Medical Parasitology. In 2017, they attended Lancaster University and completed an MRes in Global Health in 2018. Lastly, from 2018 to 2022, Gala Garrod pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Tropical Medicine at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
