Gert van der Merwe

Gert Van Der Merwe is an experienced safety management professional currently serving as the H&S Manager at Firestone Liberia since September 2023. Gert has held significant roles in the Aveng Group as the SHE Manager since March 2015, overseeing safety protocols on construction projects, including civil works at the Sasol Refinery. Previously, Gert was the SHEQ Manager at CCI Engineering & Projects from September 2018 to September 2023 and served as a Construction Safety Specialist at Sasol from August 2010 to March 2015, contributing to the development of HS&E Project Plans. Gert began career in construction supervision at Bleacher International, where responsibilities included managing construction crews and ensuring safety compliance. Gert holds a Bachelor's Degree in Quality Control and Safety Technologies from the University of South Africa and completed Grade 12 in Technical/Mechanical studies at High School Oosterland.
