Erik Schmidt, Sr. has over 25 years of work experience in the field of cybersecurity and information technology. Recently, they joined Avertium as a virtual Chief Information Security Officer. Prior to that, they served as a Professor in the Master of Science in Cyber Security Operations and Leadership program at the University of San Diego. Erik also worked at Teradata as the Director of Global Incident Response Operations. Erik has a strong background in digital forensics and incident response operations, having held positions such as Director at E7 Defense and Senior Security Consultant at Optiv Inc. Earlier in their career, they worked as a Senior Computer Forensic Intrusion Specialist for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and as a Senior Information Assurance Specialist at Computer Sciences Corporation. Erik began their career in the US Navy as an Information Technology Specialist. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated extensive expertise in cybersecurity, leadership, strategic planning, and cross-departmental coordination. Erik has also been recognized for their contributions to the field, including being praised as an expert witness in court proceedings.

Erik Schmidt, Sr. pursued their education starting in 2001 with a Computer Mastery Certificate Program from Kaplan University. Erik then continued their academic journey at the University of Phoenix from 2002 to 2006, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management. In 2010, they furthered their education at the University of Phoenix and obtained a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Business Administration. Additionally, Erik Schmidt, Sr. has obtained various certifications in the field of technology, including AccessData Certified Examiner from AccessData in 2012, and certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), and Seized Computer Evidence Recovery Specialist (SCERS).
