James May has worked in various roles in the business development field since 2001. James began their career at Charles River Associates as an Associate. In 2008, they joined the United Nations Environment Programme as a Policy Analyst, where they studied the impacts of government energy subsidies on global climate change. In 2009, they moved to the Rocky Mountain Institute as an Analyst, leading a model development project on electric vehicle infrastructure investment. From 2010 to 2011, they worked at Utah State University as the Director of Special Projects, leading business development efforts on energy technology projects. In 2011, they joined WAVE (Wireless Advanced Vehicle Electrification, Inc.) as the Vice President of Business Development, leading the business development efforts from early seed funding through several rounds of venture funding. Since 2016, they have held two concurrent roles as the Director of Business Development for both SCVsoft and Avi-on Labs. At Avi-on Labs, they have been responsible for the company's suite of connected home products powered by Bluetooth Smart Mesh technology.
James May received their BA in Economics from Middlebury College in 2001, after attending Concord Academy from 1992 to 1996. In 2007, they earned a Master's Degree in Energy Policy from Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment and a Master's Degree in Global Policy from Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy.
