Andrea Martorana

Lead Scientist Analytical Development at AviadoBio

Andrea Martorana has a wealth of experience in the field of biochemistry. Andrea began their career in 2008 as an Intern at NiKem Research, where they worked on scale-up synthesis and process optimization. In 2012, they completed an Internship at VTT, where they used mass spectrometry to characterize carbohydrates after their reaction with oxidative enzymes. From 2013 to 2015, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where they characterized protein conformations in living cells. Andrea then moved to Technische Universiteit Delft, where they worked as an Analytical Biochemist from 2015 to 2016. In this role, they were responsible for genetic engineering, manipulation and expression of vectors, and protein purification. From 2016 to 2019, they were a Scientist at Pharming Group N.V., where they designed, planned and executed experiments to develop sound protein purification processes for large-scale production of protein therapeutics. Andrea then joined GSK as a Sr Scientist Process Development from 2019 to 2021, before taking up their current role as a Senior Viral Vector Scientist -DSP at Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult from 2021 to 2022. In 2022, they were appointed Lead Scientist Analytical Development at AviadoBio.

Andrea Martorana's education history includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry from Università degli Studi di Siena, which they completed between 2009 and 2012. Prior to this, they obtained a Master's degree in Drug Design and Synthesis from the same university in 2008-2009. Before that, they obtained a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from Università di Catania between 2000 and 2007.
