Alasdair Fikouras

Senior Process Development Engineer at Avicena Tech

Alasdair Fikouras has worked in a variety of roles since 2009. Alasdair began their career as a Summer Intern at the Swinburne University of Technology, where they participated with a group of prospective students in understanding the physics of the laser laboratories and studied how light responsive molecules responsible for photosynthesis reacted under high speed laser pulses. In 2010, they returned to the University of St Andrews as a Summer Intern and studied the optical properties of flexible metamaterials, learning to print monolayers of nanoparticles and applying these monolayers to different flexible structures. In 2012, they returned to the University of St Andrews as a Summer Intern and investigated the synthesis and manipulation of silver and gold nanoparticles with the aim of controlling the electrical and optical response. From 2015 to 2020, they worked at the University of St Andrews as a Research Assistant and PHD Student. During this time, they completed their Masters Thesis on determining the suitability of β-carotene as a biomarker. Since 2020, they have worked at Avicena Tech as a Process Development Engineer and Senior Process Development Engineer.

Alasdair Fikouras received their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Biophotonics from the University of St Andrews in 2020. Alasdair also attained a Masters in Chemical Physics from The University of Edinburgh in 2014.
