Jeff Schmersal

Jeff Schmersal is the Chief Operating Officer at AVX. Jeff has over 9 years of experience in corporate health and safety. Jeff was previously the Corporate Health and Safety Leader at Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC from February 2006 to August 2008. In this role, they were responsible for establishing a strategic plan for Health and Safety program implementation across eight manufacturing facilities, three distributions centers, two research and development centers and the corporate headquarters. Jeff provided oversight and support to facility environmental, health and safety professionals and leadership.

During their time at Bendix, Jeff sustained World Class Safety Performance levels below TCIR<1.0 & LWCIR<0.10 and achieved over 9 Million Hours without a lost time injury. Jeff also improved accountability for all levels of the organization by developing and deploying HSE excellence training to communicate roles and responsibilities and provide tools for improving HSE at all levels of the organization. In addition, they developed a comprehensive audit plan based on processes and risk, performed core process gap analysis and HSE compliance audits at each manufacturing location, and placed each facility in a maturity path based on current processes for accountability & responsibility, risk assessment, operational control, auditing, incident investigation, training and communication.

Jeff also implemented a process for managing workers compensation by standardizing claims management process, reporting, communication, and quarterly claims reviews with TPA. In addition, they drove compliance with NFPA 70E through coordinating site electrical system analysis, upgrading electrical systems where deficiencies were
