Jinyan Zang has worked in various roles and organizations throughout their career. They are currently the COO and Co-Founder of Axle, a company focused on using data to improve trucking and supply chain. Prior to this, Jinyan worked as a Scholar and Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, where they launched a public interest tech podcast called "How Tech Becomes Law" and published research on algorithmic discrimination and voter registration accessibility issues. They also supported fundraising efforts for a multi-year grant from the Ford Foundation to establish the Public Interest Tech Lab. Jinyan has also served as a Co-Host for "How Tech Becomes Law" podcast. Before joining Harvard Kennedy School, Jinyan was a PhD Candidate at Harvard University, where they also worked as a Teaching Fellow and Senior Thesis Adviser. They taught data science courses and advised student projects on the impact of digital technologies on society. Jinyan's work experience also includes roles as a Research Analyst at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS), a Management Consultant at Oliver Wyman, and a Research Fellow in Technology and Data Governance at the Federal Trade Commission.
Jinyan Zang has a strong academic background in political science and government. They started their education at Harvard University in 2009, earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Economics in 2013. They then pursued further studies in political science and government, completing a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in this field at Harvard University from 2016 to 2021. During this time, they also pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Political Science and Government, which they successfully obtained from Harvard University in May 2021.
