Ingel Demedts began their work experience in 2010 as an Academic consulent at the Department of Pulmonary Diseases at Universiteit Gent. In 2012, they became the Secretary of the Belgian Respiratory Society and later served as the President of the Working Group "Thoracic Oncology" in the Belgian Thoracic Society from 2010 to 2012. In 2013, Demedts became an External expert in Thoracic Oncology at KCE - Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre and also joined the Recognition commission Pulmonology as an External expert in Thoracic Oncology in 2014. In 2009, they started working at AZ Delta as an MD, PhD Pulmonary Physician/Thoracic Oncologist.Ingel later became the Head Of Department of Pulmonary Diseases in 2021 and a Board Member of the Future Health(care) Steering Group in 2020. Demedts is currently a Guest Professor at Universiteit Gent.
Ingel Demedts has a comprehensive education history starting with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Ghent University, which they obtained from 1993 to 2000 with a field of study in Medicine. Following this, from 2000 to 2006, they pursued Pulmonary Medicine at Ghent University as their degree of interest. Additionally, in 2006, Demedts briefly studied Thoracic Oncology at both Ghent University and CHU Lille in France for a short period. Finally, in 2007, they resumed their education at Ghent University to pursue a PhD in Medicine, with a specific field of study in Medicine.
