Armin Kubis

Head of Synthetic Biology at b.fab GmbH

Armin Kubis has extensive work experience in the field of synthetic biology and molecular plant physiology. Armin is currently serving as the Head of Synthetic Biology at b.fab GmbH since April 2021. Prior to this, they worked at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology as a Research Scientist for their PhD project from October 2016 to April 2021. During this time, they focused on engineered metabolic pathways in E. coli and managed a team of six research assistants. Armin also mentored two Bachelor and a Master student and developed various gene deletion protocols and biosensor strains.

Before their role at the Max Planck Institute, Armin completed their Master Thesis Project at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research from January 2015 to April 2016. Armin also gained research experience during their time at The University of Edinburgh and Heidelberg University, where they worked on projects related to transcriptional regulation and optogenetics.

Armin began their research career as a Bachelor Thesis Project in the Laboratory of Dr. Silke Hauf at the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory of the Max Planck Society from June to August 2013. Armin then worked as a Research Assistant in the same laboratory from October 2012 to March 2013, where they focused on S. pombe strain construction and genetic manipulations.

Overall, Armin Kubis has a diverse background in synthetic biology and molecular plant physiology, with experience in managing research projects, mentoring students, and developing novel protocols and strains for biological research.

Armin Kubis pursued their academic journey in the field of science, starting with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Tübingen, which they obtained from 2010 to 2013. Following this, they furthered their education by pursuing a Master of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Heidelberg University from 2013 to 2016. Armin then embarked on a Doctoral Program at the International Max Planck Research School, where they completed their studies and earned a Dr. rer. nat degree by 2020.
