State Coordinator - Child Protection at Bachpan Bachao Andolan - India

Deep Banerjee serves as the State Coordinator for Child Protection at Bachpan Bachao Andolan since March 2019, where strategic partnerships are established to promote a child-friendly society and manage teams focused on rescuing children from labor and slavery. Prior experience includes a tenure as a Technical Consultant for UNICEF India, leading state-level capacity-building initiatives and developing communication strategies, notably for Poshan Abhiyaan in Jharkhand. Additionally, Deep participated as a fellow in the U.S. Department of State's International Visitors Leadership Program, exploring human trafficking response efforts in major U.S. cities. A former Regional Project Manager at SHAKTI VAHINI, Deep managed anti-trafficking initiatives across multiple states while fostering partnerships and capacity development. Early career experience as an Admin & Accounts Assistant at Jeevika Development Society involved supporting administrative tasks and record maintenance. Deep holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Vidyasagar University.

Bachpan Bachao Andolan is one of the pioneer grassroots movements in the history of child rights, since 4 decades, founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi in 1980. BBA works to prevent exploitation, ensures legal help, and provides support to victims of trafficking through rescue and rehabilitation. It also focuses on creating and promoting an accountability framework for law enforcement and other child protection agencies and safeguarding the interests of children through child-friendly policies and processes.
