Benoît Degrenne

Benoît Degrenne has extensive experience in the field of microalgae valorization and engineering. Benoît has worked as a Chief Technology Officer at Back of the Yards algae sciences (BYAS) since 2022. Prior to that, they were an External Lecturer at Nantes Université starting in 2019. From 2019 to 2021, they served as an Engineering and Research Project Manager at ALGOSOURCES TECHNOLOGIES, where they were responsible for various tasks including organic certification, research lab management, and development of new bio-refinery concepts. Before that, they were a Senior Research Development Scientist at Algonésia Technologies from 2014 to 2018, where they focused on the design of photobioreactors and the development of biorefinery techniques for algae extract valorization. Other roles include being a Project Leader at H2FOOD, an Associate Founder at SCIRSEE Conseil, and a Chief Science Officer at Grow Energy. Benoît also gained research experience as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Nantes and the University of Colorado. Benoît Degrenne completed their PhD at the Université de Nantes, where they worked on hydrogen production by green microalgae in photobioreactors.

Benoît Degrenne obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Bioprocess Engineering from Nantes Université between 2005 and 2009. Benoît also holds a BS degree in Sciences from the University of Caen and University of Nantes. Additionally, they received an MS degree in Chemical and Food Industry from the University of Nantes.
