Michael Wagner started their work experience in 1990 as a Principal at Baker McKenzie. During their time there, they served as a member of the Global Executive Committee, Chair of North America, and Chair of the Firm's Global Pro Bono & Community Service Committee. Michael had responsibilities in Global Industry Groups, Firm Communications, Brand, Reputation & Public Relations. In 2014, they also became a Member of the Board of Directors at the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession.

Michael Wagner began their education in 1975 at Northwestern University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Michael continued their studies at the University of Wisconsin Law School from 1978 to 1981, earning a Doctor of Law (JD) degree. In 1980, they were also a visiting student at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.
