Julia Yan has a diverse work experience that includes roles in various industries. Julia is currently the Co-Founder & CEO of Baleena, a company they started in 2022. Prior to this, Julia worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania from 2021 to 2022 and as a Summer Associate at Strategy& in 2021. In 2020, they worked as a Business Development and Customer Research Analyst at Petal Jewelry Inc., where they led the development of distribution channel strategy and conducted interviews with stakeholders for marketing and sales channel development. Julia also gained experience as an Insulating Materials Laboratory Intern at Doble Engineering Company, where they created and implemented analytical models for quality control. Additionally, they worked as a D. E. Shaw Discovery Fellow at The D. E. Shaw Group in 2020. Earlier in their career, Julia served as an ENGR 105 Teaching Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania in 2019 and as a Student Researcher at North Carolina State University from 2017 to 2018, where they focused on investigating hydrogel-enabled wearable electronics and developing lab-on-a-chip interfaces for health sensing. Overall, Julia has demonstrated skills in project management, business development, data analysis, data visualization, and teamwork throughout their work experiences.

Julia Yan completed their high school education at Enloe High School from 2014 to 2018, earning a High School Diploma. Julia then pursued higher education at the University of Pennsylvania from 2018 to 2022. During their time there, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) with a major in Materials Science and Engineering. Additionally, they completed a minor in Engineering Entrepreneurship.
