Principal Research Engineer at Ballard Power Systems

Esmaeil Alvar has a diverse work experience in the field of engineering. Esmaeil currently holds the position of Principal Research Engineer at Ballard Power Systems, where they lead the development of gas diffusion layers for membrane electrode assemblies. Esmaeil is also involved in advanced characterization techniques to improve the performance of fuel cells. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Research Engineer at the same company, leading projects for the development of gas diffusion layers. Esmaeil'searlier experience includes working as a Research Engineer at Ballard Power Systems, where they were responsible for overseeing the design and manufacturing of gas diffusion layers for fuel cell stacks. Before joining Ballard Power Systems, Esmaeil worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Windsor, focusing on improving the coating and electrochemical stability of carbon fiber papers and synthesizing catalyst supports for fuel cells. Esmaeil also has experience in the oil and gas industry, having worked as a Quality Control Supervisor and R&D Scientist at SARV Oil & Gas, where they were involved in the production and analysis of catalysts. Throughout their career, Esmaeil has published several journal articles and filed patents.

Esmaeil Alvar completed their Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Metallurgical Engineering from Sahand University of Technology in the years 2002 to 2006. Subsequently, they pursued a Master's degree in Materials Science from Amirkabir University of Technology - Tehran Polytechnic, which they completed between 2006 and 2009. Following this, Esmaeil Alvar attained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials (Mechanical) Engineering from the University of Windsor, where they studied from 2009 to 2015.

In addition to their formal education, Esmaeil Alvar obtained several certifications to further enhance their professional skills. Esmaeil acquired the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute in November 2019. In August 2018, they became a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt through the ASQ - World Headquarters. Furthermore, they obtained the Professional Engineer (PE) certification from Engineers and Geoscientists BC in January 2018. In September 2017, Esmaeil Alvar completed a training program on problem solving and decision making conducted by Kepner-Tregoe.
