Chief Risk Officer at Banca IFIS SpA

Walter Vecchiato is the Chief Risk Officer at Banca IFIS SpA. Prior to their current position, they served as the Principal Bank Sector Expert at the European Banking Authority from October 2014 to April 2018. In this role, they led the benchmarking IMA for MR and revised the ITS/RTS framework to extend that to the FRTB. Walter also worked on benchmarking internal models in CCR and CVA as well as liaising with NCAs, implementing supporting tools, and drafting reports. Additionally, Vecchiato joined the Basel SIGTB group and was in charge of defining the stress testing framework for the EU Banking sector.

Before their time at the European Banking Authority, Vecchiato was the Risk Manager at Banca Intesa from January 2000 to December 2003. Walter then served as the Chief Risk Officer at Cassa Centrale Gruppo Bancario Cooperativo from April 2018 to January 2020. Prior to that, they were a Senior Manager at a Holding settore bancario e assicurativo from January 2014 to October 2014. Vecchiato began their career as a Professor at Università degli Studi di Venezia Cà Foscari before serving as the Head of Risk Management at a Banking and Insurance Conglomerate from September 2003 to December 2013.

Walter Vecchiato has a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from Università degli Studi di Padova and is currently a visiting researcher at UC San Diego.
