Jorge Ponce

Head Of Economic Research at Banco Central del Uruguay

Jorge Ponce's work experience begins in 1992 when they worked as an Analyst at BROU. In 1999, they joined Universidad de la República as an Associate Professor and later became a Professor in 2010. In the same year, they also started working at ANII as a Researcher Level 1 and later progressed to Researcher Level 2 in 2018. In 2002, Ponce joined Banco Central del Uruguay as an Economist and held various roles including Head of Financial Stability and Head of Economic Research. Jorge also worked as a Professor of Economics and Finance at Universidad de Montevideo from 2010 to 2016. In 2019, they became the Director of Research at the Research Institute for Development, Growth and Economics (RIDGE).

Jorge Ponce holds a PhD in Economics, which they obtained from the Toulouse School of Economics, where they studied from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that, they pursued a Master's degree in International Economics at the Universidad de la República, completing their studies there from 2001 to 2004. Jorge's educational journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the same institution, Universidad de la República, which they successfully achieved from 1995 to 2001.
