Maria Balgova

Research Economist at Bank of England

Maria Balgova is a seasoned economist with extensive experience in research and teaching. Currently serving as a Researcher at the Bank of England since June 2024, Maria previously held the position of Research Economist at IZA - Institute of Labor Economics from September 2019 to June 2024. Maria also contributed as a Tutor for Undergraduates at the Department of Economics, University of Oxford, from January 2016 to June 2019, focusing on British Economic History and Core Macroeconomics. In addition, Maria has worked with The CORE Project as an Editor and Writer, aimed at reforming undergraduate economics education, and served as a Peter Martin Fellow at the Financial Times. Early career experiences include internships at EBRD, Frontier Economics, and Bank of America. Maria holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Economics from the University of Oxford, along with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
