John Koster

John Koster, MD, is an internist and emergency medicine physician who most recently served as president and CEO of Providence Health & Services, a large nonprofit based in Renton, Washington. Previously, he held senior leadership positions overseeing management of health insurance plans, hospital systems, medical groups and consulting practices.

In addition to Banner, Dr. Koster serves on the board of the California nonprofit Sutter Health. He is a trusted advisor to hospital systems, health insurers, boards and health care technology companies across the nation. He also is a well-known author and contributor, having his works included in publications across the country.

Dr. Koster is an executive in residence for the Health Management Academy and has frequently been included in Modern Healthcare magazine’s annual list of Most Influential Physician Executives.
