Bhargavi Sunkara

Bhargavi Sunkara serves as the CIO and CTO and global head of tech estate management at Barclays since July 2024. Previously, Bhargavi held the position of Head of Corporate Technology at BNY Mellon from October 2018 to August 2024, where leadership focused on transforming Corporate Technology to support essential functions such as Human Resources, Finance, and Risk through emerging technologies. Prior to BNY Mellon, Bhargavi was the Vice President & Head of Technology at American Express, leading high-performing teams in the engineering organization and driving technology advancements including Cloud, AI/ML, and Big Data. Bhargavi's career also includes roles as Manager TPM at Amazon, directing the development of shipment tracking and messaging platforms, and as Director at Microsoft, where Bhargavi led engineering teams in various business solutions. Bhargavi earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
