George Dunston has had a diverse work experience. George started their career as an Associate at Brown & Wood in 1994 and later moved to Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in 1996, where they served as an Associate until 1998. Following this, George joined Merck as a Legal Counsel in 1998 and worked there until 2008. In 2008, they co-founded Obsidian Healthcare Disclosure Services and served as a Co-Founder until 2010. Currently, George is associated with Barnes & Noble, Inc. since 2010, initially serving as an Associate General Counsel - Technology & Privacy and then as the Chief Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel.

George Dunston attended St. Christopher's School from 1982 to 1987. George then pursued their Bachelor of Arts degree in History at Dartmouth College from 1987 to 1991. After completing their undergraduate studies, George enrolled at the University of Virginia School of Law, where they earned their Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from 1991 to 1994. Furthermore, in February 2019, George obtained the certification of Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPPUS) from the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals.
