We are looking for a talented Senior Environment Artist to join our team. The ideal candidate is experienced in environment layout and lighting. The artist we are looking for should have a strong understanding of composition and lighting principles in order to create aesthetic, functional, and immersive locations.

About Barnstorm

Barnstorm is an Emmy and VES-nominated visual effects studio based in Burbank, CA and Vancouver, BC, providing photo-realistic visual effects for a variety of television and online streaming projects. Who You Are

You are an experienced Environment artist with a passion for crafting compelling visual narratives that reinforce and enhance the shot's setting and elements. You are capable of communication within your team and collaborating with other departments. You have a strong creative vision and want to contribute those skills to a growing team and company.

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with Lead Environment Artists to create high-quality 3D environment art

  • Create a broad range of environment assets that include architecture, nature and props from both concept and photo reference

  • Ability to integrate assets and textures produced in Houdini, respecting the technical and artistic constraints

  • Create lighting systems for your environments that are both beautiful and seamless with the sequence.

  • Ability to accurately plan and estimate workload

  • Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders to confirm task direction and ensure consistency of work within the team

What You Bring

  • Moderate to advanced knowledge of Houdini for layout, lighting, and rendering.

  • Strong modeling skills and experience in a major 3D package

  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience as an artist in the VFX industry

  • A strong understanding of art fundamentals

  • Ability to work collaboratively, with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • A solid portfolio demonstrating experience in the creation of high-quality, high-resolution 3D assets, UV maps and textures.

  • Proven ability to work within a team environment

  • Knowledge of virtual production integration for film and television

About This Role
