Timothy Durkin, DO, FAAEM, CAQSM has a diverse range of work experience in the medical field. Timothy started their career as an Emergency Physician at Southwest Emergency Physicians, where they provided care for patients at Mercy Regional Medical Center. Timothy then joined First Choice Emergency Room as an Emergency Medicine Physician before transitioning to the University of Florida as a Sports Medicine Fellow.
During their fellowship, Dr. Durkin cared for NCAA athletes and community patients with activity-related medical and orthopedic complaints. Timothy also worked as an attending physician at UFShands Adult ED, a level I trauma and academic referral center. Additionally, they provided medical coverage at various sports competitions and venues, including UF Gators SEC Football.
Following their fellowship, Dr. Durkin served as a Medical Officer at the Indian Health Service, where they provided care for adult and pediatric patients in a federal IHS hospital ED and level IV trauma center. Timothy also worked for 1582 as a Public Safety Wellness Physician, conducting annual wellness exams and determining fitness for duty for fire departments and emergency services agencies in the western US.
Dr. Durkin's experience extends beyond clinical practice. Timothy served as the Chief Medical Officer at Base Medical, LLC, overseeing the curriculum for an online school specializing in wilderness medical care and outdoor safety. Timothy secured approvals, recognitions, and accreditations for the company and curriculum, as well as developed comprehensive online search and rescue education programs.
Furthermore, Dr. Durkin has been involved in educating response partners and increasing awareness of search and rescue capabilities as the Lead Search & Rescue Specialist at Colorado Highland Helicopters Search and Rescue Ltd. Timothy has developed and presented in-person and asynchronous education programs.
Dr. Durkin's expertise has also been recognized by the U.S. Forest Service, where they served as a Medical Advisor. Additionally, they have contributed to the Wilderness & Austere Paramedic Exam Project as part of the Job Task Analysis Workgroup for the International Board of Specialty Certifications.
Currently, Dr. Durkin is working as a Sports Medicine Physician at Orthopedic Associates, specializing in the field of sports medicine.
Timothy Durkin, DO, FAAEM, CAQSM completed their Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering at Vanderbilt University from 1994 to 1998. Timothy then pursued their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the University of Pikeville, studying from 2001 to 2005. Prior to medical school, they obtained a Paramedic Certificate from the Montgomery County Public Service Training Academy from 1999 to 2000. Timothy Durkin completed their high school education at Gonzaga College High School from 1990 to 1994.
In terms of additional certifications, Timothy Durkin obtained a Wildland Firefighter Type 2 certification from the U.S. Forest Service in August 2021. Timothy also holds a General Class Amateur Radio License issued by the Federal Communications Commission in 1989. Further, they earned the Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine certification in November 2010. In August 2018, Timothy Durkin obtained both the Sports Medicine Subspecialty Certification and the Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine, both awarded by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
