Giselle Sandi-Tapia has had an extensive and varied work experience. Giselle began their career at Triton College in 1994 as an Adjunct Chemistry Faculty, a role they held until 2002. In 1994, they also joined Argonne National Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Appointee, later becoming an Assistant Chemist, Scientist, and the Women in Science and Technology Program Initiator. At Argonne, they also served as the Postdoctoral Program Coordinator from 2007 to 2010, managing the selection process for postdoctoral candidates.
In 2001, Sandi-Tapia became an Adjunct Research Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, a position they held until 2009. From 2007 to 2022, they worked as an Adjunct Chemistry Faculty at Benedictine University.
Sandi-Tapia's experience in academia also includes their role as an Associate Professor at the Department of Microbial Pathogens and Immunity in Rush Medical College, which began in 2017. Giselle also served as a Senior Director in the Office of Rush Mentoring Programs at Rush University Medical Center from 2013 to 2020, where they were responsible for executing various mentoring programs.
Sandi-Tapia has also held positions in leadership and organizational roles. Giselle was a Member of the Board at Community Consolidated School District 89 from 2015 to 2018 and at the National Postdoctoral Association from January to October 2015.
Currently, Sandi-Tapia holds the role of Deputy Division Director at Argonne National Laboratory, where they work with the Division Director to develop impactful research and development ideas. In 2023, they will become the Director of Research Excellence at the Idaho National Laboratory.
Giselle Sandi-Tapia holds a PhD in Electrochemistry from Northern Illinois University, which they obtained from 1990 to 1994. Prior to that, they attained a BS and Lic. in Chemistry from Universidad de Costa Rica UCR from 1983 to 1989. Giselle completed their high school education at Liceo de Escazu, earning a High School Diploma from 1978 to 1982. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications, including "Body Language for Leaders" and "Strategic Thinking" from LinkedIn in 2020, a "Trained Facilitator" certification from the National Research Mentoring Network in 2018, and completed the "Teaching Excellence Mini-Series" from the College of Health Sciences, Rush University in 2014.
