Kumaren Perumal

Kumaren Perumal has extensive experience in finance and auditing. Kumaren is currently serving as the Chief Financial Officer at Bay of Plenty Regional Council since February 2022. Prior to this, they held the same role at Western Bay of Plenty District Council from October 2017 to January 2022. Kumaren also worked as the Manager Finance at Waipa District Council from March 2010 to September 2017. Kumaren has a background in audit and information systems, having worked as the Audit/Information Systems Audit Manager at Audit New Zealand from August 2006 to February 2010 and at the Auditor-General of South Africa from December 2002 to July 2006. Before that, they started their career as an Audit Supervisor at PKF South Africa from April 1999 to November 2002.

Kumaren Perumal began their education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 1993. Kumaren completed a Bachelor of Accountancy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accountancy in 1998. Kumaren went on to attend the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants from 2005 to 2009, where they obtained a degree in Chartered Accountancy (CA(SA)). In 2009, they furthered their education at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, specializing in Accounting and Finance. Additionally, in 2011, Kumaren pursued a degree in Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.
