Steve Groom

Steve Groom is an experienced governance professional currently serving as Governance Manager at the Bay of Plenty Regional Council since April 2023. Previously, Steve held the position of Director at Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission, spearheading a cross-government initiative on community leadership in the recovery from COVID-19. With a strong background in public service, Steve has served as General Manager at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, where responsibility included managing a large team and ensuring responsive service delivery. Additional roles include Chief Advisor for the Managed Isolation and Quarantine response during the COVID-19 pandemic, Group Manager at the Ministry of Education of New Zealand, and various leadership positions within the Ministry of Social Development. Steve holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Victoria University of Wellington and a Bachelor of Social Sciences from The University of Waikato.
