Samer G. Mattar, MD FACS, FRCS, FASMBS, ABOM is a highly experienced medical professional currently serving as Professor and Chief of the Division of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine since July 2020. Samer holds the position of Past President at the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery since November 2015 and has been a Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Bariatric Services at Oregon Health & Science University since January 2014. Previously, Samer served as Medical Director at Swedish Medical Center Weight Loss Services from 2017 to July 2020, as a Professor of Surgery at Indiana University Health from 2005 to 2013, and as Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2002-2003. Samer's advanced education includes a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy from Emory University, a General Surgery degree from Vanderbilt University, and multiple other qualifications in surgery and obesity medicine from prestigious institutions, culminating in a Diplomate status in Obesity Medicine since 2018.
