Cheryl Tobias has practiced law in British Columbia for over 35 years. She was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008.
Cheryl was a Senior General Counsel with the federal Department of Justice when she retired in 2013 after 32 years of practice. Her caseload included many constitutional matters including aboriginal rights cases and regulatory cases which she litigated at all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada. She also had substantial legal risk management responsibilities for significant litigation in British Columbia. At various points in her career with the Department of Justice Cheryl had management responsibilities in various areas including professional development programming, recruitment and developing case management systems.
