Marilee Peters

Director, Stakeholder Engagement at BC Financial Services Authority

Marilee Peters has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Marilee started their career as a Managing Editor at ARC Publications in 1994, where they worked until 1997. From 1997 to 1999, they served as a Marketing and Communications Specialist at the Arts Club Theatre Company. In 2005, they joined the BC Council for Families, initially as a Director of Communications. Marilee later took on the role of Acting Executive Director from 2011 to 2012. During their time at the BC Council for Families, they developed and managed strategic communications plans, led a website redesign and online strategy development, and directed a branding campaign.

In 2012, Marilee founded MAP Creative Communication, where they worked as the Principal until 2014. At MAP, they provided creative and strategic communications solutions for non-profits and social enterprises. In 2013, they worked as an Editor for the BC Organic Grower Quarterly at the Certified Organic Association of BC. Marilee also served as a Communications Officer at the Real Estate Council of BC from 2013 to 2017.

From 2014 to 2017, Marilee worked as a Children's Author at Annick Press, publishing books such as "The Man Who Knew Everything: The Strange Life of Athanasius Kircher" and "Making It Right: Building Peace, Settling Conflict". In 2017, they joined the Real Estate Council of BC as a Manager of Communications, a position they held until 2021. Finally, in 2019, Marilee joined the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) as a Senior Manager of Communications and Engagement. Marilee was later promoted to the role of Director of Stakeholder Engagement in 2021, where they continue to work.

Marilee Peters completed their education in a chronological manner. Marilee first attended the University of Ottawa from 1989 to 1993, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature. Following this, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from the University of British Columbia, which they completed from 1998 to 2000. Lastly, Marilee attended the University of British Columbia again, this time from 2003 to 2005, to acquire a Master of Library and Information Studies degree in the field of Library and Information Studies.
