Happie Poonian

Regional Team Lead, Player Health at BCLC

Happie Poonian has a diverse work experience spanning over various industries and roles. In 2004, they began their career as a Teacher (Training) at Northfleet Technology College. This was followed by a similar role at Gravesend Grammar School for Boys Enterprises Limited in 2006 and Meadowhead School in 2008. In 2009, they worked as a Teacher (Training) at Thrybergh Academy & Sports College.

In 2011, Happie transitioned into the security industry, starting as a Security Officer at Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited. They later became a Security Supervisor at the same company, holding the position from 2012 to 2015.

From 2015 to 2016, Happie worked as a GameSense Advisor at the BC Responsible & Problem Gambling Program. They then moved on to become a Prevention Service Provider at the same program in 2016, where they stayed until 2018.

In 2018, Happie joined BCLC as a GameSense Advisor and was later promoted to the role of Regional Team Lead, Player Health. In this position, they managed the daily operation of GameSense Information Centres in their region, providing leadership to a team of GameSense Advisors. They also developed educational programming and facilitated Player Health training programs for gaming staff, while providing consultation on responsible gambling standards and policies to gaming service providers.

Throughout their career, Happie has consistently demonstrated a focus on responsible gambling and public health, as well as a commitment to customer education and problem gambling prevention.

Happie Poonian attended Sheffield Hallam University from 2006 to 2010, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Design & Technology with Education & Qualified Teaching Status. Happie also received additional certifications in Understanding Addiction from the Canadian Mental Health Association in 2016, Core Indigenous Cultural Competency Mental Health from the Provincial Health Services Authority in 2015, and Behaviour Management from Northfleet Technology College in 2004.
